WEEK 4:
17. My First Meet-up

Let’s see… can I count the Lolita meet I basically inserted myself into, in I think… 2014? I was in cosplay with vaguely Lolita inspired elements, what was I thinking? No one outright said I couldn’t be there so I tagged along but just while I waited for my friends to arrive? I think? I’m pretty sure we went to the rainforest café down the block from the con center, we got some drinks, I have 0 recollection of any and all interaction because I remember I had to leave in a rush to meet with my friends so we could go to the homestuck photo-shoot.

That’s what I remember, should I count it? I suppose not. Let me see, first REAL meetup I suppose would have to be the Vitae essentia tea party “La divinia commedia” from February 2023. I suppose a very grandiose first lolita meetup, but I’m realizing there’s a good number of Lolita’s that start their Lolita social life in this manner. A lot of people I met there I’d been looking forward to meeting because we’d talked online and I met many many others through pure chance and normal socialization (many of which I saw again this past summer in Manchester <3). It was so fun and so convenient being in my city! It was a proper fun event of course not without its complaints (mainly about the tea party) but it was still an all around proper Lolita event + tea party; I even modeled for Fidel David, my first time modeling for anything ever! It was so so fun and because of this big event we were able to gather Lolitas from the city who’d both gone and had heard about the event but weren’t able to attend so we could form our local comm! I think that was the best thing to come out of it honestly.
