I love summer, and I love summer ILD. Thankfully its not too too hot at the beginning of June and I think its nicer to have fun in the sun and warmth than in the dreary cold… [though winter meetups have their charm as well of course]

Last summer me and Cami more or less organized a little meetup at a local teahouse this time we thought we’d do the same but unfortunately I got scared if we’d get a table or not for afternoon tea as they don’t take reservations for afternoon tea/dinner, so we opted for taking a vote for some different options.

Regardless from the start we agreed a museum meet would be best, to both beat the heat and for entertainment purposes- because who doesn’t like wandering around a museum with their friends?

It was such an easygoing afternoon. We took our time meandering through the halls and couldn’t pass up any and all snarky little comment but enjoyed discussing and digesting the pieces we found interesting and liked as well.

After a few hours we drew hungry and headed on over to the soufflé pancake we decided to try that had also just opened up. Most of us were hungry hungry as well and needed some salt to satiate ourselves properly. Quickly following so half of our group got up to go then order the pancakes which was done at a window outside and beside the restaurant we were in (which was still the same one technically), for themselves. They came back not 5 minutes though with so to say: “they said it’ll be a 45 minute wait”.

Yeah, no.

I unfortunately by then was still wanting a sweet treat, a bubble waffle sounded nice. I quickly looked up a nearish boba place that also did bubble pancakes and off we went.

I don’t know how to describe simply walking around with other Lolitas, really all I can say is it means everything to me to be able to do so. Maybe it always reminds me of momko and ichiko’s little montage in kamikaze girls when they’re walking around Harajuku, maybe it’s something else. But I don’t know, walking around in lolita with other Lolita’s? Definitely a top 3 lolita activity for me lol. We hopped on one bus and then finished the journey with a decent trek, but in a lovely part of the center so it was all fine.

We ended up in a neighborhood which these days has become quite trendy. A lot of apparent locals kept asking us if we were in a theater troupe, or filming a movie or show (“sir/ma’m do you see any cameras?”), or that we simply looked nice (yay ). The latter two things being slightly annoying but it was fine and not all too bad because as every alt person knows it can always be worse! I really am lucky I haven’t ever been outright harassed ever in lolita and I’m glad that our comm hasn’t been as well.

We finally arrive at the boba shop and… there’s no bubble waffle. I wallow a bit as I’m not even in the mood for boba but oh well whatcha gonna do and we enjoy our break in the a/c after our trek. Some of our comm had to break away by then and the rest of us enjoyed walking around the ever-trendy neighborhood as it came to cool down because after all in the end it is a cute neighborhood (now, I remember when I first moved here I was pretty scared to ever go there). I had to figure out how I’d satisfy my sweet tooth and ended up nabbing some macarons being sold in a gelateria, the majority of which unfortunately didn’t make it home in one piece. When we’d had our fill of walking we headed to the metro and went our separate ways.

When I arrived home though, without a proper tea party, I didn’t feel like International lolita day wasn’t over. I said fuck it and bought Kamikaze girls on Amaz*n video (since I couldn’t find an eng sub rip anywhere anymore) and I set up my own little tea, complete with varied little sandwiches, tea, and all.

So that’s how my International lolita day played out and ended. It may just end up becoming tradition for me now to have a showing of kamikaze girls (or another lolita movie) now with a little tea setup because I’ve got to admit it was hard to not absolutely love it haha.
